I'm snow angel

I'm supposed to be working on my novel so I'm procrastinating as usual. I really should work through the mire rather than avoid it because I know there's solid ground on the other side, but I feel the going is rather treacherous at the moment.

What's new? Well, yesterday my boss asks me whether I'm free on the last weekend of August. At first I kind of scoffed internally and thought I may be organised but I don't have my life planned THAT far ahead. Turns out that's the weekend of the Oxfam Trailwalker and I'd volunteered to be on my friend's support team (called 'Hold me Closer Tony Danza', my favourite lyrical malaprop of all time).

Today my boss comes in and reveals a bit more - apparently he's booking a company team bonding trip to the snow. I heard about the last one, held a couple of years ago, but I didn't realise it was a big deal, paid for, company thing, I just thought it was social outing to which some people from work went.

So anyway, I have to decide whether or not to continue with Trailwalker or tell Alison to find someone else to help her team. If I tell her now, she should be able to find someone in a couple of months, plus my boss says he'll donate money to her team to have me go to the snow.

Honestly, I would prefer to go to Trailwalker because I feel I'll meet people outside my usual sphere of social activity rather than a) people from work (who are lovely but I spend all week with them, plus they're ten times cooler than me); b) ski bunnies. But if it means that much to Colin to have everyone go and enjoy their reward, then I guess that company donation to Oxfam will make up for my absence on the trail.

I can safely say now that I won't be skiing because I can't afford it (although at some point in the future I'd like to try) so it'll be a case of watching everyone going up and down a mountain for three days while I try and find something to do. Bring a camera and go on a photography excursion I suppose. And bring a notebook.

This evening I was an audience member of ABC's The Gruen Transfer, which I've never seen (because I don't watch TV) but which Ass invited me to because she thought it would be fun. It was. Wil Anderson hosts, and despite the fact that I don't think he's that funny, I do like him as a host. For those who don't know, the show is about the machinations behind advertising, which I found particularly fascinating as I am virtually ad-proof (which is only funnier when people use 'Ads' as my nickname).

And here I am avoiding the fate of a pair of identical twins trapped in a world of surveillance and unreal freedom. (Do you think some of that sentence works as a blurb?)
