A Beautiful Mind

(24/07/2006 - 10:54pm)

Who knew that a beautiful mind could be so sexy? Paul won ‘do or do’ on Friday night but no one will tell him. Naomi had a ladies’ poker night, inviting all the girls from secondary up to her apartment after the customary Friday eve pub visit. Some of the boys expressed envy when we explained why we were leaving the pub so early. A few couldn’t make it but Melissa, Dina and Dina’s girlfriend Desiree came along, with Naomi and I making five. No one won because we ended up drinking, talking and gossiping. Dina and Des had to leave at 9 because they live in Kingswood but the three of us ended up playing ‘do or do’ until 11pm.

‘Do or do’ is the perfect game for chicks to play when they’re tipsy. It involves naming two people and then everyone chooses who they would ‘do’ out of those two. The aim is to get the best and the worst by weighing up the alternatives one by one. You can only claim one threesome and one suicide. Paul won and Colin lost. Paul is not all that good looking (he isn’t bad looking either but er, he’s rather unconventional) but the three of us agreed that he was attractive because of his intelligence and the fact that he wants to be cool but everyone knows he’s a nerd. Some of the other duels threw up some interesting results, which I won’t publish here (cone of silence activated).

Anyway, the time since I last wrote has flown by. Last Saturday I moved to Waverton, which is where I am typing this entry (although we’re not connected to the ‘net at the moment so I’m saving this onto my thumb drive to upload at work tomorrow morn). Although the removalists were late, the move went pretty smoothly and I must say that this apartment feels like home, even though I haven’t got a bed yet (I’m currently sleeping in a sleeping bag on the sofa bed in the living room).

It’s also warm in the apartment, but I can’t figure out whether this is a good thing, because it means it’s temperate here, or a bad thing, because it will get stinking hot in summer. The apartment faces northwest, which means it gets plenty of sun, and we’re just around the corner from the railway station on the North Shore line, which means I can get home at any hour of the night.

Have been doing pretty well with Sireesha as my flatmate, sharing around the chores and generally getting up to shenanigans such as our non-adventure in trying to find the garbage chute (it was right outside our door) and jokes about fitballs. Anyone who’s coming to my housewarming, beware of sitting on the fitballs. I won’t say why.

Work has been quite good as well. I finished my commerce unit today and will be starting another commerce unit tomorrow. The company has offered an incentive to speed things up a little - $125 extra for each day you submit a unit before deadline. That’s my kind of work, deadlines. They’ve not been setting deadlines until now so I’ve been rather casual about things. Of course, quality will still be the judge of whether we receive the bonus.

Other than that I’ve been twiddling my thumbs, waiting for my bed. Oh, and also considering taking Stuart as a, um, friend with benefits. We will need to set some boundaries but I’ve put the idea through a few people and the consensus seems to be to go for it. My main concern is that I don’t want him to think that we have any chance of getting back together as a couple but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

The housewarming debate fizzled a bit, too. I’m going to invite pretty much every acquaintance still left in Sydney and the secondary department at work. Hoping that not everyone will be able to make it, of course, because the apartment just isn’t big enough, never mind the threat of Colin coming. No date as yet – probably first Saturday in August, but it wouldn’t be a proper housewarming without all the furniture so I have to wait for my bed to come. Grr!
