No chaser

Now I'm throwing you all out because I'm a day early this week. The crazy things I do...

The main reason for this early post is time management, namely a dash of procrastination from continuing my novel (let's call it a creative break) and also because I know tomorrow will involve me going to the Greenbiz Cafe in the evening and then busily finishing things for work.

I had a decent week despite the fact I'm a bit tense knowing that a lot of content is due this week. I didn't spend any time doing out-of-hours work, though, which may be to my detriment this week but hey, when you need a break, you need a break.

Instead, on Wednesday night I went to the opening of the 100% Pure Love exhibition by Brendon Marczan, who is Ness' fiance's Russell's brother. A lot of the work was really good, things that I'd consider buying, even priced around the $1,500-$2,000 mark as they were.

Ness had a few friends along and so after the opening we went and had dinner at a cafe down Oxford St and then Ness, Russell and I ended up at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel (the Eddie) having a beer after that.

Work was unremarkable for the rest of the week, except for when online manager Jess told me the stats for the website were the second highest (after the post-Budget day) in the history of the site.

Last night Ass and I went to see Shane Warne The Musical, tickets for which my sister bought me for my birthday. It was actually quite good - I guess I was expecting a spoof but it really was more of a lyrical biography and quite a funny and poignant one at that.

As someone who has followed Warne since the 1994/95 season (not since the beginning, I admit, but I did read Roland Perry's biography to fill in the early years), I found I understood some of the jokes a bit better, especially the song about Daryll Cullinan compared with non-cricket audience members or those who didn't know Warne as a cricketer (as opposed to a media figure) very well.

Afterwards Ass and I went to Dolce & Gelato and I had an Italian hot chocolate to kill some time before I met up with Ness and her posse following the Ash Grunwald gig they went to at The Metro, as we were all going to head to Berserk at the Burdekin Hotel for goth night.

I arrived at the Eddie (pre-determined meeting point) before them so I had a beer and watched the public karaoke. Got a message from Ness saying they were stopping for food so I had another beer to fill in that time, then was mobbed about 10 minutes later by a flood of Ness' people.

Pia (ex-Red Apple) and her boyfriend Ben had been to Berserk and said it was shit because there was no dance floor due to a mix-up with the venue. Apparently there was a mass exodus of goths and therefore no atmosphere so they came and met up with us at the Eddie and we had a bev together.

After that there was a fair bit of wandering around trying to figure out what we should do next. We stopped at Galaxy World and played a few rounds of Dance Dance Revolution (I am so terrible at that game, it's a tragicomedy) and then went to the Three Monkeys, but some of our number couldn't get in on account of being inebriated so we left and went to Ness' place and watched old episodes of Seinfeld instead.

This morning the remainders - Ness, Russ, Pape, Scott and I - went to yum cha somewhere near Hurstville (Scott, Pape and I were crammed the back seat knee-to-chin in Ness' little car so I didn't exactly see where we were going).

We dropped Pape and Scott off at Pape's house afterwards, then Ness told me Scott liked me and we should go out. I was pretty sceptical because he didn't seem to pay any particular attention to me, or ask for my number or anything like that but then Russell added that he's really shy and that's not the kind of thing he would have done. I feel a bit weird having slept on the couch with him, knowing that...

I like Scott and we have a fair bit in common but the shyness thing is hard for me to get my head around, because how do you know if he's keen? Anyway, I said to Russ that he was free to give Scott my number. I am determined not to do any chasing because I am always the chaser and I don't have the energy at the moment.

This afternoon have been pushing through words to continue my novel while worrying about my mortgage, work and the mess my room is in.

Time to bake some fudge cookies.
