So I'm still sick. When I left you last I was about to go to my parents' place before we all headed down to Canberra. Well, that Tuesday I felt great; I was touch and go about going to the dentist the day before, but felt so much better I ended up going. I was even in Chatswood half an hour prior trying on jeans (this is what happens when Jeanswest have them at 2 for $100 and I haven't bought a pair since 2004).
So I had my filling done. It was one of those internal jobs - my tooth was apparently like a shell of enamel with nothing inside so it really was a 'filling' - then I went to my parents' place. It was my dad's birthday so we went out for dinner. I didn't eat a lot, but I ate more than the previous two days put together.
Then the next day I woke up and I didn't feel so good. I spent three days - Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day - in various stages of bloating, fever and fatigue. Then on the 27th I developed a sore throat.
Since the doc said it was a viral thing I thought I could only hit it with some home remedies. I discovered a good one: apple cider vinegar and honey in hot water. It was especially good because I had the ingredients in my apartment. Got a bit of a cough and then my mum convinced me to go see the doctor again.
My usual medical centre was fully booked so I had to go to another one that didn't bulk bill so I had to pay a gap of about $30, which I thought was excessive considering 10 minutes later I was in a pharmacy filling out a prescription for something to treat what ended up a secondary bacterial infection, again upper respiratory.
I've finished the course of antibiotics and guess what? No change. I do feel better but I think I might have felt the same without shelling out the $16 for antibiotics. For the most part I'm actually okay, though throughout the day my throat feels a bit gluey.
It's in the night that I have problems as it seems I can't lie completely horizontal without the possibility of choking to death. This means I wake up with a dry, sore throat from trying to keep mucus back, so I haven't had a decent night's sleep in about two weeks. Every morning I take the apple cider vinegar and honey to restore my throat and every night it's the same deal.
The worst part is that I've spent a fair deal of my leave on NOT having a proper holiday and on Monday I'm back at work. TOTALLY. NOT. FAIR.
In better news, I hear author Terry Pratchett has just been knighted.
I'll be back with pics and anecdotes from Christmas and New Year's. It wasn't all woe is me; I did manage to have some jam.
