Lockdown

So, I am in lockdown mode at the moment, which basically means I'm dedicating myself to finishing a whole bunch of tasks and won't let myself out until I've done them. Well, actually I'm not that dictatorial about it, but I am being strict, mind. For starters, I've rationed the Tim Tams and I'm timing my meal breaks.

How did it get to this? Well, It starts by saying 'yes' to things that you cannot possibly do without giving up on eating, sleeping, and life in general. Guilty as charged. Fortunately I was able to renegotiate a few deadlines and am on track to deliver things this week after some hard work and longish hours.

But the interesting parts of my week are never the work-related parts so I'm going to change the topic now and talk about meeting with Sandra, who was my favourite high school English teacher (Year 9 & 12). We met at Macquarie Shopping Centre for a long lunch on Friday, talked about our current projects and exchanged gossip. Her son went to uni and did film studies with my friend Wendy from writing group so we talked about film for a while.

She told me about the changes at BHHS which caused some angst, namely change of head teacher and principal, and about Erik, my Year 11 English teacher (I used to have a crush on him but don't tell anyone) who spoke out about things of concern and, in her words, was "carpeted". (Sandra is retired but does casual work occasionally.)

That evening I went to Stitch Bar, which is a new Melbournesque 'small bar' on York Street, to mind some tables for the work crew as it was Miranda's farewell.

Well, 45 minutes later I was reprimanded by the wait staff for holding the tables and frantically trying to find out when people were going to arrive. Turns out there is a limit on the number of people allowed in the venue and so half of our number, including the boss, got stuck in line outside and had to wait for others to leave before coming in. It's a nice space but too bloody expensive and too freaking crowded—I wouldn't recommend it.

Anyway, had a good night chatting to people I don't usually talk to, even though I ended up taking one for the team and conversing with our resident nerd Dale for a large part at the end. I like Dale, but I talk to him far too much at work as it is to do so after hours.

On Saturday went to yum cha with some school friends, which segued into some light shopping (needed to get leggings/tights for an outfit that started out cheap and fashionable but seems to need a lot of extra bits) and then caught X-Men: First Class with Sir, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

That night I made my first appearance at Vivid Sydney (all the pretty lights along the quay!) for the Bat for Lashes gig. The ticket was a gift from my brother who had no idea what to get me for my birthday so he ended up giving me $200, which I spent on gigs at the exxy end of the scale.

I had a decent seat and the gig was awesome. I only really knew one song (yah, the famous one, 'Daniel') but have definitely heard her other songs played on FBi Radio and just thought her brand of ethereal folk pop was right up my alley.

The rest of the time since then has been devoted to checking off things on my to-do list. Boring but necessary.
