I have been coasting since I last wrote in. I did put in a few extra hours on Thursday night and yesterday, but they weren't too taxing and it made the relaxing part of my weekend more relaxing.
Cool stuff that has happened:
Went to see Taikoz + Topology + Karnak on Friday night. Of course it inspired me to take up taiko. I bought all their CDs and intend to listen to them intently with my good headphones on. Damn this weak, achey left wrist, though. I fear it's RSI. After the performance I went to Dolce & Gelato and had chilli chocolate and Kinder Bueno gelato for dinner. It's becoming a regular occurrence...
On Saturday I went around to my parents' place and did the usual hanging around, watching cricket on the telly and reading the weekend papers. Then in the afternoon I went to Eurolounge at Castle Towers for high tea with Assie, only I had to do most of the high tea dessert-eating. I wish I had friends with sweet teeth. Sugar overload is one thing, but as a regular meal it's criminal.
Speaking of sweet, I'd borrowed my mum's car so I could practise my driving in preparation for Canberra in a few weeks and got a totally sweet park right outside the doors of the shopping centre. My parents also let me drive home after the cricket ended with Australia steamrolling the West Indies.
Sunday was Japanese movie day. I went into the city to watch 'Penguins in the Sky' which turned out not to be a doco but a film based on a true story about Asahiyama Zoo, which only made me want to visit Hokkaido. It was heart-wrenching, actually.
Then spent a few hours around Chinatown not eating anything with sugar in it (I was allowed one Easy Way) and ended up buying a giant novelty Kung Fu Panda alarm clock for Ness for Christmas and some Morning Glory stationery. Had a bite to eat at Ton Ton and a matcha latte at Azumi before meeting Sir and Lena for 'K20: Legend of the Mask', which was as fun as I remember it. Then revisited Ton Ton, where we had dinner.
Today was relatively good. There was a fair bit of running around and feeling behind, but I made an effort to leave on time so I could get my hair cut. I told my hairdresser J that she could do anything and I ended up with this. I fear that it will be a style I will be unable to maintain due to my lack of skills wih a hair straightener.
I then decided not to waste my trip to Chatswood, so ended up going to the Hoyts in the Mandarin Centre to see 'Mao's Last Dancer', which I've been meaning to catch for a while. Quite an interesting movie; a bit too much ballet for my liking and the narrative was quite simplistic, but enjoyable nonetheless. And I remember meeting Li Cunxin! At the Sydney Writers' Festival a few years ago. He was on a panel about China with Adeline Yen Mah.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention - bought a ticket to see George Michael before the presale (the pre-presale?). Sir is a member of Preferred Seating and I used her account to get it. I'm $260 poorer but at least not worried about missing out. I do wonder, though, does this happen to every popular concert? Because it's bloody unfair. I mean, this way a lot of the tickets will have gone before the general public even gets a chance. I know I'd be pissed off if I missed out because someone in a 'club' had privileged access. And yet, I'M GOING TO SEE GEORGE MICHAEL IN FEBRUARY! WOO!
