Mixed bag of a week. Not in a good and bad kind of way but a 'this is weird and random' way.
Had meetings with lots of people I didn't want to meet resulting in lost time from the office but refrained from working back and working at home, which means I'm rather behind again. All this time business is exhausting, isn't it?
Was handed a prop to do on Thursday, ostensibly a re-tender for one of the client mags (the one I've just taken over) so of course I had to jump on it straightaway, never mind that I had other things to do. This scope creepiness has gotten out of hand. I keep thinking 'I should say no more often' but you know what? No one ever asks, they just hand me more. Like, I know the saying 'if you want something done, give it to a busy person' but seriously, this busy person sometimes needs to sleep.
Other stuff, fun stuff. Went to see The Whitlams play with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Opera House. It was their 'Eternal Nightcap' show so the first half was the album in order - a lot of good fun. The second half was a mixtures of songs from the other albums, some of which had some beautiful orchestral interludes.
Assie and I have decided to have one last shot at a subscription to the SSO. It is the last year before she can no longer claim the Youth (under 30) prices and we both agree that the SSO has been the most interesting (we've also tried opera and the theatre). Besides which, the Great Classics package had 7 concerts for $187 which includes my favourite suite of all time: Tchaikovsky's Suite No. 6 Pathetique.
On Friday Assie and I saw our last play for the 2009 STC season, 'The Mysteries', based on the Genesis stories. There were nude people screaming and dancing. It was intriguingly staged in the pit-like Wharf 2 theatre, like an arena for the first and third act, and a dance floor for the second. My assessment of it was that the direction was very, very good but the acting was amiss. It seemed overacted. Not sure if this was purposeful (if it was, then the direction was bad...).
The weekend was pretty good to me. I slept in on Saturday (until 2pm!) and then I went to MagNation and bought $125 worth of magazines and other assorted gear (not all mine, by the way, some of it was for Chrissy presents), then went to the Finders Keepers markets at Eveleigh and trawled the emerging designer goodies (spent close to $200... *sigh*). Very nearly won the $1,200 designer hamper but was two numbers off in the raffle. Finished with pancakes and gelato and went home to listen to Square on FBi radio.
Sunday consisted of a bunch of chores, including a supplement run to Chatswood in the afternoon and then lugging about 15kg of groceries home on the train. I don't know how it happened, but suddenly I decided to buy 3L of apple juice, a kilo of couscous, a kilo of polenta etc...
Sometimes, for no reason, I get this urge to go out and buy stuff. If I'm lucky it'll be lots of stuff I need.
Today was fairly average, though this evening I got to meet a real live Baroness (Valerie Amos) who is the new UK High Commissioner, as part of a welcome drinks for media. No drinks for me, nor food, am being strict about having a good diet, especially as I seem to have a throat thing and am due to give blood on Saturday.
Interesting weekend planned, also getting excited about going to the Peats Ridge Festival over the New Year.
