By George she's got it

So I realised with a start that it's actually Wednesday today and that I completely forgot to come back yesterday and explain all the cool stuff that's been happening (I'll ignore the possible burnout for now). I'm happy to say that's because other cool stuff has happened.

On Saturday it was really hot and my sis and I went to meet some cousins at The Winery, a new venue in Surry Hills. It was quite overpriced (my cousin Ali has exxy taste, what can I say?) but a really pretty venue, besides which after I handed over $50 (much squabbling over the bill as usual) it came back via my sis after I went to the loo. Seriously, leave them alone for five minutes and I get a free meal and booze. Should do it more often...

After that went home and had a nap to recover from the vast amount of wine and sangria consumed, then went to The Annandale to see Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers, which was a total party on stage, awesome atmosphere. Pape had called that afternoon and said he couldn't make it, so I went by myself, but after the gig I went to Darlinghurst and met up with Gla and friends, who were out celebrating Gla's new job.

On Sunday I'd planned to do a block of work but only got half of it done due to the fact that it hit 41 DEGREES. I drank about 6L of liquid (water, ice tea, juice - couldn't eat anything for most of the day). Despite - or perhaps because of - inability to complete work I ventured out in the heat (still low-30s after sunset) to The Vanguard to see Abbe May again, only really cos Daniele from The Maladies was supporting and he said he'd sell me their new album.

Scott piked because of the weather. Have decided to just give up on him.

Tried a new route via Erskineville which worked a treat (even though the walking thing got a bit sweaty) bypassing all those pesky railbuses and enabling me to get home late at night without being picked up by a stat student (yes, I'm talking to YOU last Sunday).

Monday was cool because the new girl, my new underling really, started. I was hella busy getting one mag to the client. I wish I wasn't so meticulous at checking stuff cos it takes less time to be sloppy!

Yesterday began strangely. Woke up early to take the book to the client and stood outside their office for 20 minutes from 8:45 to 9:05am - no one was in yet. You'd think in an office of 12+ people at least ONE of them would make it before 9? So I left the book and a note outside the door and had to ring to check that they'd received it (panicked a bit when I thought maybe there was a reason they were all working from home or something...).

Pumped out another publication and managed to finish with that by the end of the day, though again, meticulous checking (and unending caption insertion) made me late to meet Sir in the city to see 'The Handsome Suit', the opening night film of the Japanese Film Festival, which I recommend highly for continual, genuine laughs, and even for the motto in the film "Let's handsome!"

Also going to see 'Penguins in the Sky' (zoo doco) and 'K-20: Legend of the Mask' (which I saw on the plane from Japan earlier this year but which I thought would look awesome on the big screen) on Sunday.

Today was comparatively cruisy. It was our intern's last day so the editorial department (minus Jen, who was ill) took her out to lunch and we also had drinks in the afternoon. I think I only managed to put together a page plan and sub a one-page article. Bliss.

Also had a call from Toni at Austrade re: the job. She said I was very close and at some length suggested I consider applying for other jobs there and offered to give me detailed feedback about my application. Essentially she said I was a very close second.

To be honest, I'm relieved. Despite all the whingeing I've been doing over the past couple of weeks about my workload, I sense it's about to change with the new girl on board. I don't feel that I've done all I need to do at Loyalty either. I was actually considering withdrawing my application but a part of me just wanted to see how far I could go.

What else? Am going to see Taikoz on Friday... and, I found out today, GEORGE MICHAEL IS TOURING AUSTRALIA IN FEBRUARY. I'm so nervous that I won't be able to get tickets (for under, like, $500). Pre-sale is next Wednesday. Ticketek won't actually disclose what that means but I hope it means I can secure my ticket bcos I'm on the waitlist. Mkay?
