So anyway, the concert was touching and beautifully done. No support act, just over two hours of straight playing. It felt real, not like a nostalgia tour at all. The highlight for me was the montage of S&G photos that began the concert, Garfunkel's 'Bright Eyes' (which 'spoke to me' for the first time) and 'Scarborough Fair'.
The only real drawback was that I was sitting next to a guy who felt compelled to sing every word of every song, only some of which was drowned out by the sound system. And every now and again I caught a whiff of his terrible garlic breath.
Ass and I were about 20 years under the average age of the audience, although there were a few young 'uns around. The good thing about going to an oldies concert is that you know you'll get home before midnight. We also had an amazingly good run of trains on the way home: we were in Waverton less than one hour after the last bit of applause had died away.
The week at work was unremarkable. Lots of interviews and meeting and press conferences (although for security reasons I was uninvited from the Australia Spain Business Forum where the King and Queen of Spain were guests of honour - apparently I am not on some magical list of governmentally-cleared journalists, a list I did not know existed...).
The highlight was going to the manufacturing launch of the NSW Export Awards at aussieBum's headquarters on Thursday afternoon. Now, the guys in their ad campaigns are hot, but I was surprised to also find that half the guys in their office are equally hot (in a slightly nerdy kind of way, you know me). Check out their cheeky (pun intended) ad campaign for the UK (right). And their story is really interesting too: the little exporter that could, the Australian-made label just growing and growing, and innovating, and reaping profits. I think I might keep the catalogues. For research. You know.
On Friday, I awoke to the news that Michael Jackson had died. The whole world knows that now. I merely mentioned it so I could say I spent my Friday night on the couch watching about half an hour's worth of cheesy video montages on the current affairs channels, then hoed into my 'Ones' DVD and then the only bit of 'Moonwalker' that's worth watching ie the full length 'Smooth Criminal' clip.
Gave blood on Saturday. A rather successful trip out: weight is steady and my haemoglobin is up, which is great. Also indulged my sad fetish for hosiery on sale at Myer. I now have seven pairs that are yet to be relieved of their packaging waiting in my closet.
Saturday night was the Save FBi Final Fling at the The Metro which was great, only I was physically unable to find/see/fight my way to acquaintances I knew were around. Anyway, the music was fantastic. I think the highlight for me was Dappled Cities and I'm very glad I have tix to see them in August (August? Is it really that far away?) closely followed by dancing (to non-FBi-like dance hits from a decade ago) in The Lair with Jonathon Valenzuela, Shag, and Sweetie on the decks at various times.
Yesterday I did not much. Watched some of The Cat Empire's latest DVD and developed an unhealthy obsession with Ryan Monro (the bassist). Then, on account of wanting to sew a button onto my new phone cover (it's actually designed as an iPod cover but it fits my E63 beautifully) I decided to tidy my desk and clear out my wardrobe.
Why did a button cause trouble? Because I realised that I had a box of spare buttons collected from now-defunct clothing, as well as about 15 other spare buttons which have not joined its peers on account of me being too lazy to take them out of their packets and put them in the button box. So I decided to consolidate my spare button collection. One thing led to another...
Anyway. Today (which is no longer technically Monday, although I mean Monday) I didn't get as much done at work as I'd hoped. So I'll leave you now in order to get some sleep and live to fight another day.
