A nothing kind of week. I'd like to think I've been gathering myself for some really full weeks ahead but although there are a few things on in the coming days, there's nothing I need to really gear up for. Except maybe giving blood on Saturday, which requires me to take my iron supplements and stay away from tea and coffee for a few days. And eat steak.
I had a meeting at St Leonards on Wednesday so I arranged to meet my friend Alg for lunch. It was interesting because I realised that I don't really have a lot in common with her other than a shared history and some literary/celluloid tastes. It got a bit difficult to keep the conversation going after a bit; we coasted for most of the latter half.
And I know it's unfair but I compare her to her twin Gla, who is really easy to talk to, and who will talk about almost anything without the other person feeling as if they have to do a lot of work in the conversation. Better flow, y'know?
On Thursday night I had a good evening of shopping, which is something I know I don't often say. For starters I finally got a new phone, a red Nokia E63, on a really good cap plan - $29/month with $150 value, including 20MB internet usage (can pay a little extra to get more data). The guy at the store gave me 1GB for my first month to try out the internet features and see what I would use (of course I went nuts).
I also bought a bone-coloured 'rain' jacket from Myer for $50, which meant I could tick off 'jacket, not black or red' from my shopping list. When I was in the handbag section of Myer I realised that I was going to see my mum on the weekend and she had a lot of handbags that I could probably pick from, which meant I saved at least $30 and a heap of time.
Friday morning I had to go to the dentist to get an old filling fixed. The dentist receptionist called me while I was on my way to the station (on my new phone) to say that my dentist had called in sick, did I still want to come in and get put on the emergency list?
Well, I was already up early and I'd already bought a train ticket and I'd already informed work that I may be in late (in case the appointment ran overtime) so I said I'd go anyway. Luckily someone did cancel and I ended up being treated by the dentist that I originally wanted but couldn't get because she was booked out. Fate, eh?
That evening I went and had sushi with the gang (Ass, Sir and Beq) before seeing 'The Proposal' at Ass' behest (as she is in love with Ryan Reynolds) and polished off with a hot chilli chocolate at San Churro. Beq had to go after that but the three of us headed back to Waverton for a cup of tea and a long in-depth chat about life, the universe and everything.
On Saturday I went to see my mother in The Hills (dad was out playing golf despite the weather). She cooked me a big bowl of laksa and then foisted a lot of things on me, including aforementioned handbag (chosen from two large boxes of bought-but-never-used handbags), jewellery and later, when we were wandering around the shops, bought me underwear which I picked up because Target were on sale and she wanted to shout everything in the basket.
I then met up with Ass. We were supposed to have high tea at Eurolounge but were too late so instead wandered around the shops poking fun at things, taking pics of her with the Ryan Reynolds cutout at Greater Union, then stopped in at a cafe for afternoon tea.
Yesterday I went to see my friend Peta at Picnic Point, which was quite a hike (a three-hour round trip) and meet the newest addition to her family, Sebastian. Very good baby, not like my niece at all. For starters very calm and smiley. Peta and I caught up on each others' news and I managed to avoid becoming a victim of Facebook cybersquatting when she decided it was too difficult to make me join.
When I got back to Revesby Station it was dark and drizzly and almost the scene of something grisly. Got some writing done on the train (when it did eventually come), very pleased about that.
Today was nothing special, though there's a little bit of an undertow about the coming activities. What I mean by that is, I can feel it sucking me in the wrong direction, distracting me from the main game, which is to get things done!
Tomorrow, Simon & Garfunkel at Acer Arena. Also looking forward to SAVE FBi: The Final Fling at The Metro on Saturday, even if I will be giving blood that afternoon. Hope Ness can come along. Also hope Scott will miraculously appear. I've decided I will ask him out when I next see him, hang all the other stuff I was fretting about. Life's too short to be fussy about that kind of thing sometimes.
