Huge weekend. Massive weekend. So big I don't even want to talk about it. Otherwise, lots of bits and pieces floating around the week but none of it interesting.
Spent Saturday doing the following:
* Geting a pedicure at the Aveda salon as part of Alg's hen's evening. The pedicurist and I got on like a house on fire once we both discovered out mutual love of walking and high tea.
* Entertaining Alg's dog Max (she also has a cat called Minnie that I've never seen) while she prepped for the rest of the night.
* Going to tapas at Mille Vini.
* Going for dessert at Bed, Bar & Restaurant.
* Buying a 4 pack of Red Bull from Woolies and taking a bottle of Jagermeister from the work stash (left over from the snow trip) and then catching a bus to Cremorne for Jen's flatmate-warming (the oft-mentioned Canadian Aaron).
* Talking to a very nice guy called Tim, who is an ESL teacher, and then lamenting that the Canadians stole my Jager and Red Bull.
* Dancing at Minskys.
* Drinking at Minskys.
* Being approached by a guy from my high school. The conversation went something like this...
He: "Did you go to Baulkham Hills High School?"
Me: "Yes"
He: "What's your name again?"
(I tell him my name and ask him his. We shake hands. I ask him whether he went to the reunion)
He: "No, I didn't end up going. What do you do now?"
Me: "I'm a journalist. These are some of my work friends. What are you doing here?"
He: "My friends thought it'd be a good idea to come."
Me: "Do you live around here?"
He: "No, I still live in Castle Hill."
I can't remember what else was said but it would have been inane. I didn't recognise him at all, but I recognised his name when he said it. Later, when my faculties had returned to my head, I thought firstly that it was strange that he recognised me and then secondly, considering that the group he hung out with at high school pretty much thought I was a joke, that he'd even bothered to come up to me at all. People change, I guess. Either that or there was something about the exchange I completely missed.
Spent Sunday at the Laneway Festival dead tired. However, the highlights were: Hermitude, The Temper Trap, Buraka Som Sistema and Pivot. Funniest bit was: falling asleep sitting cross-legged listening to Stereolab and being woken by a bunch of random guys clicking their fingers in front of my face who then cheered when I woke up. Saddest bit was: paying $10 for a pie and chips.
Just about caught up on sleep missed. While bushfires roar in Victoria, it is cool and rainy here, perfect weather for sleeping in.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I went to a video installation launch at Telstra last night (presented in partnership with the Museum of Contemporay Art) and saw Naomi and Nick from CODA who were playing ambient music. Spoke to Nick and asked him about the next album, which he said should be out this year. Yay!
