I walked over 10km today, at least 5km with a load of about 8kg. The trip there took about an hour and the trip back about an hour 15 mins (that's the lag from fatigue + load). This brings my total kms walked this week to over 27km, which is pretty good considering how much time it all takes out of my busy money-making/learning schedule.
Now, what to do about my flabby arms..?
The Lane Cove Village area was bustling with residents going about their weekend business (cafe-ing and shopping). I stopped in at the Simona factory outlet but disappointingly they only had samples that were size 8-10 so I didn't end up getting anything from there.
I did pick up a skirt from a boutique nearby, though. While at the moment I am on a wool blazer quest, a few years ago I was on a knee-length black A-line skirt quest. I did manage to get one off eBay but it was slightly too small so it sat a bit higher than I preferred, showing more leg than I preferred, which is what happens when you buy clothes off the internet even if you have your measurements right. I wore it occasionally but not as often as I might have if it'd fitted better. Since then I've managed to buy one from a Myer sale and now one from Dots Boutique, both of which are better designed, fit better and are made of better material.
I also popped into the Vinnies there. It's a lot smaller than the one at Waverton and they didn't have any suitable wool blazers but they did have a Simona casual black jacket for $15, which I snapped up and am currently wearing. It smells like modern Vinnies. Ye olde Vinnies had a slightly musty smell that reminded me of a forgotten cupboard full of 1950s clothing; a modern Vinnies smell is lightly perfumed, as if the sorting centre is near a heavily-scented cottage garden. I can still tell it's from Vinnies because it's very distinct, but only because I'm a Vinnies shopper. Takes one to smell one etc.
So I wandered around Lane Cove Village for a few hours looking at fabulous stuff that I either couldn't wear or couldn't afford. Then I found a cheap vege shop and bought some groceries. Then I sat at a cafe and had chicken & vege soup and a large organic fairtrade mocha while watching Australia defeat Russia in the men's Olympic basketball heat and reading the Spectrum. Then I walked home laden with produce.
In addition to my 'walk lots' initiative, I've also decided to eat lots of fruit and vege. I do already, at least in comparison to lots of people I know (including Sir who is vegetarian but tends to eat carbs), but I'm really trying to nail the recommended five vege and two fruit. This is actually quite difficult because I eat plenty of fruit, 3-4 a day, but probably only two vege. I also don't really know what constitutes a serving.
Oh wait...
(An amendment: I eat more than enough vege - I was counting one cupful as a serve but it appears 1/2 cup of cooked vege is a serve).
If the whole healthy seven campaign was designed to make me feel guilty about eating anything other than fruit or vege if I hadn't already reached seven, it has worked. Yesterday I ate ONE piece of fruit, a large mandarin with breakfast, and that was my total for the day. For lunch I had a Tandoori pizza (no vege) and for dinner I had 'special fried rice' and fried chicken in lemon sauce (no vege). Guilty, guilty, guilty.
Today, to make up for it, I had three pieces of fruit for breakfast (banana, mandarin, apple) and that chicken and vege soup at the cafe for lunch = 4. I've just set some rice in the cooker and am about to attempt to make creamy zucchini soup with zucchini, potato and carrot in it. I can't believe they count potato in the vege count. That's good news for me and probably means that Sir gets her seven just from dahl and potato chips.
All right, less procrastinating and more doing useful things.
P.S: Unfortunately I was unable to fulfil #2 on my to-do list, which is, believe it or not, 'Harass LJ Hooker'. Oddly, they seem not to have anyone literate in their office as I continually receive brochures and 'sell your unit' letters in my mailbox despite continually returning their material with passive-aggressive notes about how they should cease and desist. The latest notice was on how Jenny Carter will be showing a nearby unit in Tunks St today - I was sorely tempted to give her back her notice as an official warning and make a scene, but unfortunately it was held in the early afternoon when I was still in Lane Cove.
