Birthday/Christmas for Dad

So, I've started thinking about Christmas cos I'm going to have to send my overseas cards/gifts soon if they are to arrive in time (note to self - don't send wine to Finland cos the postage is outrageous).

Inevitably I start thinking about a gift for my dad because it's his birthday on the 23rd and he hates gifts, so I tend to combine the budget and give him more expensive gifts at Christmas (because he doesn't mind so much when everyone else is getting gifts). Usually I get him tickets to the cricket, which clearly also benefits me because I get him two and I go as well. This year I am brimming with two other ideas; a subscription to TIME magazine because he loves news (and will also love those free watches that you get with a subscription) and a Bruce Lee DVD box set.

Admittedly he already has Enter The Dragon on DVD but the set I'm eyeing off has 8 discs, including a bonus rare features disc. My dad loves Bruce Lee - he even has Bruce Lee books. This is also the cheapest option ($85) and it has the biggest wow factor under the tree.

The TIME magazine is a grown up version of what I tried to get him last year, which was a subscription to a humour magazine that folded without sending an issue (I had a very hard time tracking down my misspent money). So technically I didn't get him anything last year, which means the cost of a TIME subscription (the most expensive at $149) is actually all right.

The cricket tickets (2 x $66 = $132) are only slightly less expensive but after you add transport and food and all that, are about the same or more than a TIME subscription. They are also tried and true - if predictable.

What do you think I should get him?

Nothing beats Bruce Lee.

All right, I bought him the Bruce Lee box set at JB Hi-Fi. It was originally $75, then 10% off as part of the Westfield Chatswood one day sale so I managed to spend $67.50 on him. And about $150 on myself.
