A moment past 5pm

It's past 5pm on a Public Holiday Monday. For those who do not share this day off, it is for the Queen's Birthday (which was in April, but we don't mind because April already enjoyed Easter and Anzac Day and it's nice to spread out the three-day weekends).

The significance of this is that I've come to one of those horrible moments where I've realised that although I've spend the best part of three days doing chores and generally attending to the minutae of my life to put things into some working order, I've hardly achieved anything at all. Lots of 'little things' become big things and pretty soon I'll be drowning in my own inability to address them.

Also, I'm looking at a printout of the first draft of my novel (or what exists of it so far - I've written about a third) and I can't find the spark to finish it. I'm finding it extremely hard to write anything fictional nowadays, it seems I'm obsessed with fixing my not-very-miserable (but still annoyingly disordered) life, hence the numerous blog entries and reviews.

I promised my writing group that I would have new stuff from said novel for Wednesday's meeting, knowing that I would set aside time over this weekend but I didn't plan for this - not writer's block exactly because I know what I want to write - more, writer's extreme laziness.

Anyway. The weather over Friday and Saturday was just appalling - lashing wind and rain and temperatures that made my toes blue, even after I put my socks on (and that's IN my warmish apartment). It also didn't help that I dropped an ironing board on my big left toe just moments before I did all my ironing, three months' worth, on Saturday night. The blood and the ironing didn't put me in the best mood to say the least. I swear I will pay someone to do my ironing next time, even though I just bought my tabletop ironing board from Ikea.

I did manage to get tickets to Sydney Film Festival stuff, though. Sir and I wanted to see 'Paprika' but the Sunday session was sold out and the only other session clashes with my freelance night. 'Inland Empire' was also inconveniently sold out. However, I will be seeing 7 films in 7 days...

Tues: Digital Projections
Wed: All in this Tea
Thurs: Comedy Shorts
Fri: Death at a Funeral
Sat: Forever
Sun: Teeth
Mon: Poison Friends

plus 'Heavenly Kings' on Friday week before I go to see Katie Noonan with Assumpta (who is back from the States this Wednesday!). Then on the Saturday I'm going to see 'PLAY!' (the video game symphony) with Stuart and his brothers. Did I ever tell you that I'm a sucker for punishment? I complain that I'm busy and it's all my own doing.

This entry is a ramble and I apologise, it's just a way for me to not write my novel. I'll be disciplined and sign off here.
