Everything/Nothing

I've had an everything/nothing kind of week. I saw Jade off last Wednesday night but I didn't want to stay too long so I left at 8pm in time to watch The Chaser with Sir.

Been picking up a bit of extra cash with a research project - one of the companies in our building is gathering data on whether the way you type can be used for security purposes, which is kind of cool. Kind of like digital handwriting. So anyway, I earnt $60 for two 45 min sessions chatting and emailing and doing some word processing.

Saw Zodiac, which I thought was too long but menacingly intriguing, so I'd recommend it (full review when I can find some time). Sir and I went to JB Hi-Fi afterwards and she ended up buying the first series of Spellbinder so we've been watching chunks of that for the past few days (I never watched it when I was in school but apparently it is an Australian children's fantasy classic) in between drab video clips of David Bowie songs (my DVD - bad choice).

I forwent a beer on Friday and ended up sticking to my plan and going for a swim despite the fact that it was cold and it was such a nice night for beer and hot chips. My session went well and the best thing was that there were hardly any people at the pool.

The worst thing was that when I hauled myself out of the pool I managed to cramp my right leg, which caused my big toe to dislocate temporarily. I can't tell you how excruciating it was. I sat there, at the edge of the pool, in silent agony for a full five minutes before I managed to wiggle my toe back into place. I slowly stood up, still feeling the twinge on my calf muscle. It's a horrible feeling, not being able to trust your body to behave.

Beq came over afterwards and I successfully stir-fried some noodles and we chatted for a while before Sir came home tipsy. She also dropped in on Saturday night to watch Spellbinder with us, which was some fun.

The weekend was mostly Sydney Writers' Festival-related and I already have a long treatise on that.

Anyway, I thought it'd interest some of you to know that I went to see a palmist last night. His name is Dr Peter Filis. Basically I spent the money that my parents gave me for my birthday on an hour with him. My scepticism for clairvoyancy oscillates and I'm at a pretty low scepticism level at the moment (to overanalyse, it's because I'm currently at a crossroads, as I've written here for the past few weeks - crossroads always lead me to seek supernatural help because everyone knows I'm psychically dead).

Was he the real thing? Well... hard to say until some of his predictions come true. But I will tell you that he said some interesting things about me that he can't have known otherwise, and some interesting - and true - things about people I'm acquainted with, which he can't have known otherwise. Basically I gave him a photo to look at and I asked if I could trust one of the people in it. He said I could. But then he pointed to another person in the picture and said "it's interesting that you asked me if you could trust that friend because with this girl I'm thinking not so much". He had pointed to a person who I have recently found out is far more deceptive than I at first thought.

He also said I was due to go on two big trips in the next couple of years, one to the west coast of an English-speaking country (he nominated Los Angeles but I personally think he got that wrong and sees my big trip to Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia) and the other to a hi-tech Asian country "like Japan or Hong Kong or Singapore". It just so happens that I am deliberating over a possible trip to Japan next year for my brother's wedding reception in Kobe (which I hope will be a family trip). So I'm happy that I will make it to Japan.

Not much else to tell. I'm slowly but surely getting myself together and will be updating my website and other bits and pieces over the coming weeks. Soon I will be making money on top of my regular salary again. Then I will skip the country.
