My parents bought a new fridge. It has a 4.5 energy star rating - I'm so proud of them! It's better than our old fridge, mostly because it's bigger and has a better fit out but also because it uses half as much energy as our old fridge. The delivery dudes didn't call us an hour beforehand as they were supposed to, so when they pulled into our driveway dad and I had to grab everything in the fridge and freezer section and shove it into eskies. It made me realise how much crap there is in the fridge. I mean, do we really need half a fridge devoted to condiments that we never use? We own two and a half refrigeration devices - a fridge/freezer combo, a full freezer and a bar fridge. Sad to say, we don't actually need the last two. Sireesha's family has the same problem. We've vowed that when we move out we will only have one fridge instead of the six that our families own between them.
In other news, I went to the Air Force Recruitment Briefing on Saturday morning. It seems that the part-time journalist position they advertised doesn't really exist. What they want me to do is join the reserves and lend my journalistic skills for a minimum of 7 days a year. At about $77/day (tax free, mind). In Richmond. Bit dodge if you ask me. Not enthused about joining the defence forces for such a paltry journo position (apparently it isn't even a journo position, it's public affairs). Not worth the trouble. Well, back to hacking it over here.
Spent the rest of the day reading the paper, baked Anzac biscuits then had Sireesha and Assumpta over for 'tea'. Sir's cat had to be put down due to an incurable debilitating condition and Ass' mum is in hospital after having gallstones removed. Me, I was just looking for company other than myself. They left pretty early after dinner to attend to their respective situations so I ended up checking out the idiot box and discovering 'Fingersmith' on the ABC, which I'd expressed interest in when I saw the DVD at the ABC Shop. Turns out it's really good but it's also a two-part mini series so I have to make sure I'm not doing anything this Saturday so I can watch it.
Um, what else? Spent Sunday with Stuart, who was especially sweet. He'd taken his cousin from Perth to the Games Workshop in the city to learn how to paint miniatures and he stopped by the Lindt store (which I have yet to find, by the way) and bought me some chocolates. And not just a random box of chocolates, he'd chosen each of the flavours himself. Awww!
My eBay listings mustered up some money, finished my body+soul article, have started interviewing for my franchise article, went to the optometrist and dentist yesterday. Eyesight is steady, which is good. Am going to try contacts again - apparently there are now some on the market that can cope with my severe astigmatism. Also have to have a dilation test at some stage. Dentist says I might need to have a wisdom tooth out in the next 12 months. I'll see how I go with that.

Then there's this sizeable Huntsman, who I saw hanging around the study room (where the main computer is) yesterday. When you view the actual size of the picture you can actually see the hairs on its legs. I don't like to kill spiders because I'm superstitious about them and I think killing them brings bad luck. My mum wanted to spray it with insecticide but the study is like this cave of a room that barely gets any air flow so I thought it'd be worse for us. Usually I'd just get up there and catch it in a jar and release it outside but unfortunately it chose the corner where the computer is and even if I stand on the computer desk it's a pretty precarious place. No sign of it today. Can't think of whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
