Wa-hay! Guess what? I'm over my virus.
Since I last checked in, not so very long ago, a fair bit has happened. Boff's mother is in Sydney from Armidale for a checkup and the prognosis is not good. They are keeping her overnight for observation but apparently severe pulmonory hypertension means the doctor has given her two years to live without drugs or five years with.
Boff, who is not the best person in a crisis, is still coming to terms with it, though he pragmatically noted that when one spouse dies (as his father did last year), the other spouse often dies of heart problems within a few years. Not really a comforting thought. I'm not entirely sure what to do other than just support him the best I can.
On a happier note, yesterday was our six-month anniversary. No, we didn't do anything special, largely because I only realised the (half) milestone in the evening and besides, Boff was looking after his mum. I spent most of the day waking up and figuring out what to do with my freelancing, including designing and ordering business cards, fixing up my new domain etc.
The reason I was so tired was because on Saturday night I went out with Assie to see Mr Percival at Camelot (it's a music venue adorned with lots of camel paraphenalia) and then decided that I would stay out until 2.28am when my family's names would appear as part of John Baldessari's 'Your Name in Lights'.
This involved walking to Broadway to get lollies from the 24-hour Kmart, which I discovered is no longer 24-hour but closes at midnight, too early for my visit. As a result I ended up buying almost 400g of sweets from a convenience store pick 'n' mix at $2/100g and then hanging out at City Extra with a pot of tea for the best part of an hour before walking down to the lights site. After the showing, photographs and recording in tow, I had to catch the 3am Nightride (with all the drunks) home. I didn't wake up 'til almost 1pm Sunday.
Today I finished my tourism article about Oprah's visit, did some freelance work for a PR client and ate grapes while trying to escape the heat (it's hard being an environmentalist when you have air-con). My magazine client has not yet contacted us about the results of our re-tender as they promised so I'm hanging in anticipation. However, this also means I am absolutely free tomorrow morning. Time to do some writing, get a haircut, fiddle with photos, create a website...
