The colour of idleness

A four-day weekend is just too much time off. I say this because all weekend I kept procrastinating - 'oh I have four days, that can wait' - only to find that end of the weekend I achieved exactly five things out of a rather long to-do list.

Those five things were:
  1. Changing all the lightbulbs to CFLs (all except two, which are only accessible by ladder).

  2. Buying and putting up a back fence (I did the buying, my dad did the putting up).

  3. Laundry (I did this on Friday, but I woke up to rain on Saturday morning, comically scrambled downstairs and slid across my too-smooth floor to wrangle the line indoors).

  4. Creating a definitive first draft of my novel by putting all my chapters in chronological order (harder than you think considering I'd stopped numbering my chapters more than a year ago).

  5. Shelving all my books (this carried some unexpected bonuses, for example discovering that I have plenty of room for more books).

In between all that I had lunch with the folks and my bro's family, met some of my neighbours, spent a lot of money on fairly necessary things (and convinced myself not to buy lots of unnecessary things), had dinner with my family, laughed at my sister playing with my niece, went to the Clash of the Titans / The Dark Knight / Sherlock Holmes movie marathon, discovered a Victoria's Basement round the corner from me, and sent a postcard.

In the other world, of work, we have offered my (part) job to a very accomplished chick, who we will hear a 'yes' or 'no' from this week. Estimated exit (go part-time) date is May 10, which happens to be my birthday, so that would be awesome. Entering a busy period this week, unfortunately. The sooner my exit date comes, the better.

Had some pithier things to say but have forgotten them now as I'm struggling with my internet connection. Until next week...
