Life in a box

"Life in a box is better than no life at all. I expect. You'd have a chance at least. You could lie there thinking well, at least I'm not dead!" - Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

Ah yes, I have begun to pack my life into boxes. My CDs and DVDs are all stacked in their cartons. The books are pretty much all in their cardboard houses; except the reference section, which will have its time when I get going on my room. Strange to think I will sit here updating my blog like this only once more before I sit at this same computer at this same desk but in a loft in my own house.

At the moment I am too busy to be excited, but I know that when I get the keys and stand in the emptiness for the first time, I will feel it. That's next Wednesday afternoon, if all goes well. I'll make sure I take photos.

This week's doings: Tetsuya's rematch (pictured above), which was much better than the first but I still don't think the food is worth $195; couple of editorial meetings (boring, boring); went to see 'Optimism' at the Opera House Drama Theatre.

Frank Woodley was funny as Candide and there were some cracker lines, but for the most part the play was uncomfortably self-consciously post-modern. The other thing I liked was that the show was incredibly well cast, with not a bum performance among the multi-characters played. One actor, who I've just found out is named Hamish Michael, was an exceptionally good musician as well. The reason being that he is a musician.

On Saturday I went to Alison's farewell at the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel in Enmore before heading to my parents' place for Chinese New Year dinner. Wasn't anything special but nice to catch up with family (and collect some $190 in ang pow - ah, culture!). My sister managed to get six weeks off work to see her new boyfriend in South Africa/Lesotho. She is also going to several FIFA games while over there. But first she is going snowboarding in Japan. Biatch!

Yesterday I went to brunch with Skippy at the Cumberland State Forest for some peace, only we were too late for breakfast and too early for lunch so had to make do with pear and raspberry bread and a milkshake. Talked about a lot of things, as we always do, plus dissected some of my people problems at work, ie the new girl not working out as planned. Actually, Jen spoke to me about her today and we both expressed our doubts and aspirations about her ability to become the editor we want her to become.

The afternoon was spent with my parents going to the shops and raiding them of empty boxes (we were quite successful, actually) so I could start packing. When I got home I started packing. It's almost depressing thinking about how much stuff I have. I don't really have time to assess whether I need it all, especially all the books - I'm sure I will get to the other end and wonder why I bothered moving certain things when I could have just gotten rid of some of it.

It's calm before the storm time at work so I'm going to make the most of it while I can and try and get things done way ahead of time so I can relax when it comes time to move.

This week: George Michael concert, The Waverton Goodbye party, '13 Most Beautiful' at the Opera House and my client's Home & Giving Fair.
