Quiet please

So, in being a diligent editor and writer, I decided to spend some of my holiday doing work so I can meet my deadline when the office reopens in January. Working from home would have been all well and good except for the fact that there is trackwork (again!) on the railway behind my apartment building. Ordinarily I have a head of steel when I'm writing in the zone but unfortunately I was transcribing, which requires me to, well, hear the recordings.

Never mind, I worked through the morning sporadically, then I went to lunch at Pino's with my friend Peta up at Crows Nest. When I came home there was still quite a bit of rumbling so I watched the cricket until the end of the day's play and the noise seemed to lessen.

Now, however, although the trackwork noise has become more distant, someone upstairs – directly above my room, in fact – has decided to do some drilling. Please, people, it's like 8pm, gimme a break! You can power tool all you want tomorrow when I go into the office...
