Kapital K

So on Saturday I drove to Canberra and back and survived. I should mention the survival part because I haven't driven for any significant distance since I went to Newcastle, which was in October last year. Actually, since there were five of us, I'm not quite sure why we ended up hiring a van instead of borrowing someone's car. I was trying valiantly to fill it with others, like my friend Skippy, but the timing was all wrong. Oh well.

Anyway, I was on autopilot for most of the time because I'd had five hours sleep on the Thursday night and five hours sleep on the Friday night for reasons that I will not detail here. Let's just say it's all Skippy's fault for changing dinner plans. Then for some bizarre reason I was not hungry so it was almost noon when I tucked into breakfast.

I don't consume caffeine when I drive. I believe it's because it makes me focus differently, in a way that's detrimental to my driving. Ness, on the other hand, who shouldn't have caffeine at all, had two large coffees before we reached our first rendezvous. This meant that we couldn't shut her up even though she's still recovering from bronchitis.

Mike sat up front with me, which was probably for the best, even if he can't read a map. Jess sat down the back and seemed tired and bored. Ness spent most of the morning annoying Pia in the middle section - Pia was, as usual, sleepy for the most part, only waking to eat and fight off Ness' humorous advances.

Both interviews were successful. Even more of a bonus was that I dropped in to say 'hi' to my sister and scored a birthday present, an amusing book on Counterculture comtaining a collection of old, mostly subversive, posters.

We returned to Sydney in the dark. Surprisingly, I was not the most fatigued - Jess and Pia were waning faster than I. After the Cricks and Pia left I laughed at Ness' dancing, foiled Russell's attempts to sit on my legs and promptly fell asleep.

Such is life.
