Ripples

Nothing much going down in ol' Sydney Town. Well, that isn't true - the Sydney Festival is in full swing but I am too damn lazy to write reviews on things I've seen. Have been disappointed with a lot of the contemporary dance stuff, mostly b'cos I don't understand it but there has been plenty to make up for that dearth. Namely really hot Taiko drummers. Grr!

Have been working really hard, packing it in lately, but our deadlines have been met and we are in the clear for at least a few weeks. At the moment we are doing really boring stuff like checking for mistakes online so I've decided to take the 25th off so I can do lots of things that I've been planning to do for ages, like go to the dentist and get a pap smear and sort out my finances.

Ness is worried that the decrease in work means that some of us will be 'let go' soon, a la November, but I've reconciled myself to the fact that sooner or later I will need to get another job so in the meantime I will just need to re-establish freelancing as a back-up.

Actually, I had an interesting night with her last week. We went to Wine Banq for dinner before seeing Leo at the Beck's Bar and we talked a lot about journalism and writing. She told me that she has read a lot of other people's stuff (at work) and she doesn't think some people write all that well. Personally, I hate passive sentences and have quite a vendetta against them. Way too many people write passively for my liking. I find that passive writing hampers education because it is usually vague and/or ambiguous.

In other news, Assumpta has returned from the UK so Sir and I have been hanging out with her a bit. We went to Jazz in the Domain on Saturday and met up with some friends, notably Tracy and Scott, Gloria, Alison and Alison's new b/f Matt as well as Ass' sister Aruna and some of her friends. It was a pretty fun night, lots of eating, talking, Uno and random dancing. Okay, the random dancing applied to me. I promise you I was not drunk.

I went home to see my mum on Sunday; watched the cricket while reading the paper in my dad's recliner before she came home from work, then we had dinner and I took my dog for a walk. Chi'na was quite happy to see me b'cos she hadn't been walked in a while but she became too curious about a cat along the way and received a scratch for her nosiness so I had to take her home to clean up the blood.

Sir picked me up and we went via Ass' house to return something and ended up bringing her along with us because she had her employment review the next day, which was ten minutes walk down the road in North Sydney. Saw her again on Tuesday for sushi and ice cream but she couldn't stay over. She told Sir some interesting things about Sir's estranged high school friends, which has caused Sir to become a bit disturbed so I hope it is all resolved fairly soon.

Anyway, those are my ripples. Nothing huge, but lots of things are coming to an end and beginning to gain momentum. Should be a pretty big one next week.
