No bananas. They're too expensive. At last glance, Australian bananas were $10.99 a kilo. I miss bananas, but because of my commitment to the environment I'm only buying local. And because of my commitment to my bank account, I'm not buying fruit that costs $10.99/kg.
A highly productive day today, I managed to race through two and a half acts of 'Macbeth' in my study topic. The new Australian movie version of 'Macbeth' is coming out this week. It's set in the Melbourne ganglands. I wonder whether I can claim a movie ticket off tax? Which only reminds me to do something about my tax return, which has not yet been filed because I haven't renewed my sole trader software or whatever, whatever, god I really need to do that soon...
All right I just wrote a mini-sob story to the tax office about not being able to renew my digital certificate because of "adverse spam, lack of internet connectivity for three months, a new contract job and moving house", all of which are true. The lack of internet connectivity relates to my lappie, who lost connection with the world in the Great Floorboard Disaster of 2006 and has only recently come back online. And the whole feckin' reason I have to reinstall the goddamn digital certificate is because I lost Duncan in the Great Lappie Disaster of 2005. The cert hasn't ever come anywhere near Drew (my Mac).
Well, last week was a rather quaint one, epitomised by the fact that I spent all of yesterday in my pyjamas as it poured and poured outside. Went out with Mabs and Sireesha on Monday night to the New Orleans Cafe, which was pretty cool. 'Twas Sir's birthday on Tuesday so Mabs cooked us dinner and set up the house with streamers and balloons, of which I forgot to take a photo.
On Wednesday Mabs stayed over at her friend Shilling's place (she lives in Wollstonecraft - one suburb away) and I went to writers' group, missing the new episode of House (Sir downloaded it and we watched it tonight). The Reds played some good soccer with one less team member, at one point also losing soccer chief Ben to a Mood (he just walked off without telling us...). So with two down, we drew - and this was after awarding the Greens their contentious equalising goal post-game. Otherwise we would have won.
A rather subdued Friday drinks, perhaps recovering from the week before. I left at about 7pm with Sibylla, Clint and Vanessa (1). Sib got off at Wollstonecraft while V1 and I alighted at Wynyard, leaving Clint to reconcile with his on-again off-again girlfriend in Hurstville. V1 and I talked for a while over takeaway coffee as we waited for her bus, then I met Mabs and her friends, hiking up to the Opera Bar. Her friends were pretty cool. In addition to Shilling there was Jo Kim from Perth and Town, who lives in Enmore. I have no idea whether I've spelt their names correctly. They insisted on buying drinks so I just had a sticky that I sat on all night, then I coerced Mabs to go at 10:30pm.
I felt bad but I hadn't been feeling well all week. Like that feeling you get just before you're sick. Kind of like DOOM. Except I never really got sick. I just had a slightly sore throat and felt a bit tired. ALL WEEK. I couldn't even take a day off work because I had nothing really wrong with me. Except DOOM. Anyway, I was feeling better by Friday but really sleepy. And now I have a dry throat for no apparent reason. Which sucks because I'm due to give blood on Thursday and James has agreed to give blood for the first time in the same appointment. Yay, a convert!
What else? Yeah, my sister came home. We had lunch on Saturday with Mabs and then Anton (her b/f) drove Mabs to the airport and then the two of them stopped by my place for afternoon tea. I was supposed to go cheesy disco clubbing on Saturday night but V1 ended up hurting her back so it has been postponed. That's about it. Have been reading '1984' as research for my novel but I'm not whizzing through it as I thought I might. I'll give it another shot tonight. Adios. It's still raining.
