As of the 5th of June, I will be... EMPLOYED!
Well, technically, according to the tax office, I am currently self-employed but it's always nice to have someone else do the business side of business. Regular pay is a plus as well.
After spending almost my entire birthday in bed with a cold (not a boy - dammit!) I tentatively embraced Thursday as a work day, ticking off lots of 'To Do' things. Friday, did casual work in the Sydney Writers' Festival office. They pay me $30 an hour! I don't think I've ever earnt that much in my life. Maybe if I tally up how long it takes me to write an article and divvy up the hours on the final invoice... but completing a commission is always stretched out over other people's schedules so it's not really comparable.
Saturday was pretty much spent wallowing as I discovered excuses that contain illness and birthdays get you really far. I'd cancelled on Stuart twice so at the last minute I decided to make an effort to see him on Sunday. It was the last day in his Dee Why pad - he is now currently embedded at his grandparents' in Narraweena (hehe, Narraweena). It's about 10 mins closer to me than Dee Why but not nearly as convenient for him. We had dinner at the Dee Why Hotel (because there is never any food at his place) and ended up not buying cheesecake at The Cheesecake Shop.
Jade left for her Italian jaunt on Monday, which is the day I ventured into the unknown, that is, Banksmeadow and other suburbs of inner southern Sydney that I never knew existed. It was seriously like another world. It didn't feel suburban enough for people to live there and yet there was steady stream of human traffic on the bus that travelled down Botany Road. I went down to Banksmeadow to look at an exhibition showroom and interview a lady for the commission I'm working on (can't forget the journo stuff).
As I was leaving the showroom, the edu company rang and asked me to come in for a second interview. Apparently they loved my rainforests submission and wanted to give me to the high school division. Peeled myself out of bed this morning for the 'first thing 9am' interview, met the managers of the high school division and they offered me the job on the spot. Came back and threw out all the other job ads I've been moping over.
Ho hum, nothing much else. Tuesday and this arvo at SWF, writing cheques for visiting authors (you can start devising your literary "six degrees of separation" for me now). I think I might go to Myer tomorrow and buy those boots I tried on today. So rarely do knee high boots accommodate my fat calves and these are closer to the ground than my current pair. Yes, I think I will.

Whoa, congrats on the job! That is really great news my friend :)! Feels good, doesn't it?
I might have some changes related to my job coming up. I have no clue what, but my boss dropped some "mysterious comments" few days ago. On the surface, it doesn't SEEM negative, although we have some changes coming up that do affect my job (maybe negative, maybe not).
Anyway, I'll know more in few hours time (hopefully) when I'm having my performance-review... Oh boy....
