Still hypermotivated and wondering when my energy for doing all things petty will end. Probably when I get back to writing blog posts on time.
As predicted by my previous post, I did run errands all around the city last Tuesday. One of them was to get rid of my unwanted books, CDs and DVDs. I decided on the targets based on their proximity to a station and to each other: Elizabeth's and Red Eye Records in Pitt St, respectively.
Elizabeth's gave me a whopping $80 credit for my books and only rejected three: Malcolm Knox's 'Jamaica', Jaclyn Moriarty's 'Feeling Sorry for Celia' and the 2006 UTS Anthology. I could understand not taking the anthology but Knox is a reasonably well known writer (albeit journalist not novelist...) and Moriarty's book is a popular YA novel. I wasn't so lucky at Red Eye. He only took half of my wares for $35 credit, which I spent (+ $5) on a biography of Leonard Cohen.
Boff joined me for the Opera House leg where I went to buy a ticket at the box office to see David Suzuki to save on the $8.50 booking fee (I mean, really, the ticket is $35 and the booking fee is $8.50? That's almost 25% more!). Then walked down to the Sydney Symphony offices for the same deal - although we then ended up spending additional money on Tchaikovsky tickets.
Dendy Newtown was a lot more lucrative. Instead of the $2 per ticket fee online, it was free to purchase it from the box office and I was actually allowed to get a discount because I'm an FBi supporter so we also saved $4 per ticket for the four sessions we bought. Tell me saving $32 wasn't worth a trip!
Of course Boff found this all very amusing because he's rich but I can only do the things I do because I'm careful about money.
We then saw Andalusian Honey, which was a performance involving early instruments (no, no, earlier than the lute. Psaltery, anyone?) and had tapas at that Spanish restaurant in Glebe called Tapas. They had quite generous servings, and most of the dishes were good.
Nothing too interesting at work. It got to Friday and Sir, Boff and I went to the Hyde Park Noodle market and then did Sugar Hit at Guylian. The weekend was a parade of activities like seeing 'Salt' at Govinda's before heading to my workmate Julia's 30th at The Clock. On Sunday it rained all day and I stayed in sorting out my external hard drive and getting rid of all the crap on it (so satisfying) before going to see David Suzuki's lecture 'The Legacy', which was a great overview of his life's work, though I couldn't help feeling he was preaching to the converted.
Yesterday I spent the morning volunteering at the Sydney Writers' Festival office (and saw my other boyfriend Chip Rolley)(Boff: "What sort of a name is Chip Rolley? I can't send assassins off to kill someone called that, they'll be giggling too much to hold the knife properly") before I had to head to work to do a phone interview.
In the evening went to Writers Anonymous to see Boff's script blocked out as a play; this is the script which has already had interest from another stage director and is currently being made into a film for Tropfest. After that it was too early to go home so, long story short, we ended up feeding fruit to possums in Hyde Park.
I'm not an advocate of feeding wildlife but Boff really wanted to because they were so tame (they came right up to my leg and sort of begged and also ambled on the backrest of the bench we were sitting on). There was a very cute mother and baby double act, too - who could resist? The most ironic part was that they didn't like taking food from him, they much preferred my offerings! I did get a scratch from one, though, as it was grabbing fruit from my hand, which I hope won't develop into something nasty. At the moment it looks fine and feels sore, mostly because it is right across the joint and hurts when I bend and flex my forefinger.
Today I got my hair cut. Only I was in a Mood in the morning so basically told my hairdresser 'do whatever'. She's made the left side of my hair short and the right side long and she coloured it red so it took 90 minutes and $55 more than usual. Looks good, though - need to take a pic of it for you.
Met Boff in Enmore for trivia with his friend Peter. We did really well: 3rd place at half time - and I answered the bonus 'Who Am I?' question, Mark Hamill - and then tied first at the end of the night. Lost the title 2-1 in rock scissors paper, though. Peter and Boff weren't too fazed - they only got some of the questions right because of me to be in the running anyway. Still, a drinks voucher and $25 bar tab isn't too shabby for a night's work.
Need to go to bed now - I always stay up on Tuesday nights because I don't realise how late it is and then pay for it dearly on Wednesday at work. Hope your week is good too.
