Quite a nothing week until Thursday. Finally got a massage (my masseuse came down with the flu last week) and then met up with Skippy, who was in town for a couple of days on family business.
We went to the Glass Brasserie at the Hilton and had a couple of platters of dessert and a pot of tea each and chatted about everything, as we tend to do. She was scared they wouldn't let her in because she was dressed casually but I knew they wouldn't, despite the fact I was in sneakers, a hoodie and had my Dr Seuss backpack.
Later, when we were waiting for her bus in the shelter of the QVB, she did a quick reading for me and basically told me I was overanalysing the whole deal with Scott. I then told her about what happened with Pape and Scott the weekend previous and she drew a card that clarified that there was too much thinking when it came to Scott. And then she drew the Wheel of Fortune card for Pape. Which, she explained, meant that I wasn't supposed to know what he thought of me. Interesting.
On Friday I went and saw 'Bruno' with Ass and really enjoyed it, despite the fact that it's not the kind of film most people would associate with me. I've not seen 'Borat' because it didn't look that interesting but I thought the trailer to 'Bruno' was hilarious. Yes, it's explicit, but it is also funny and that's really what matters.
The next day Ass and I went to see the Sydney Theatre production of 'The City' at Walsh Bay. I only liked one of the four characters, despised the protagonist (a huge problem), and found the whole premise of the play a bit of a post-modern wank about authorship, to be honest. Sigh.
Later that night I went to Paddington to a girl at work Amanda's party. I didn't really want to go because although I love everyone I work with dearly, I have so little in common with them. Anyway, I got there late, like 11pm, and had a couple of beers, talked to a couple of people and then we moved from The London Pub down to the Paddington Arms and danced for a bit.
Amanda's nickname is 'Pants', so she had a pants-themed party and had made a bunch of 'I <3 PANTS' badges. At the Arms she met one of the farmers from 'Farmer wants a wife' (a previous season) and got a photo with him wearing a badge. That was pretty much the most exciting thing that happened. I think at one point a girl on the dancefloor was trying to pick me up, but I'm not sure.
By the time I got to bed it was almost 4am and I was plagued by a warbling magpie outside my window so had to dig up my earplugs. Woke up with my head wedged between two pillows. Think I'm getting old.
Sunday afternoon was high tea at The Loft with some school friends, a Christmas in July special that included turkey and cranberry sandwiches, fruit mince pies, and cocktails that contained rhubarb, cherry, vodka and turkish apple tea. The conversation was pretty meandering, which suited my distracted mood.
Today I started with a boring symposium at the Hilton (featuring a moderator for the export section that didn't know where to find info about exporting other than Austrade and didn't listen to anyone properly...) and had a pretty cruisy day at work, followed by watching 'Serenity' on DVD, and most of the extras. Anyone else think Inara is a terrible, mostly useless character?
