No interesting pics this week.
Last week I went to Jap class only to discover that they had replaced Madoka sensei with Jackson sensei who not only moved far too quickly for my puny brain but had a kind of brutish academic atmosphere about her. Thankfully I only have two more classes left.
The worst part was that usually I can pick things up within a reasonable amount of time but for some reason I felt really faint so was going at kindergarten pace, which I thought reflected badly on both me and Madoka sensei despite the fact that it was because I was not myself. It was so bad that when I walked to the train station I had to hold my arm out to the wall in case I fell.
I ate a couple of toasties when I got home just in case it was lack-of-food related but still felt faint so had a couple of glasses of water and went to bed at 10pm. Woke up at 8am feeling tired, even though I'd had a good sleep. Decided to take it easy for the rest of the week despite deadlines.
On Wednesday night I went to see 'Watchmen' with Sir. Managed to down a medium frozen coke, which I later found out was a litre. 'Watchmen' would definitely have a look-in for the all-time best opening credits in the history of cinema in my opinion. The rest of the movie was well done too, although I have to say seeing Patrick Wilson as another good American boy with sexual troubles (see 'Angels in America') got me a bit worried about typecasting. Sir and I both liked the Rorschach character best (and no, not because he's a ranga) and discussed the movie all the way home and then some.
Thursday evening I had a massage with the delightful Emese. Manfred was of course at TAFE. They now have a cat called Freya, a Thai breed - playful like a Burmese but with a thick short coat. Emese also insisted on driving me home. Did no work at home. Slept like a baby.
The two days from Friday evening to Sunday evening was basically spent doing housework and watching a lot of TV shows on DVDs, namely the final season of 'Red Dwarf' and season 4 of 'House'. I'd forgotten how unfinished the last episode of 'Red Dwarf' was. Basically, Rimmer knees Death in the groin and runs off trying to find a way out of a collapsing ship. That's it. We don't see the others. They had better make that movie...
I'd actually already seen a number of the 'House' episodes while Sir was watching them and due to the writers' strike in 2007/08 there were only 16 episodes and not 24 so when I say I watched the whole season I kind of mean I watched about 8 episodes. They were good though. I think the show has found its strength, which is not House as a standalone character but House interacting with a great ensemble cast.
I did a little work - I transcribed two interviews - but then spent the remainder of my weekend trying to figure out what the hell I'll be up to in Japan without actually doing anything about it, like booking accommodation or anything.
The reason I'm late writing in this evening is because I first did a presentation at GreenBizCafe on green businesses and the media and then forced myself to do an hour of Japanese homework (yeah, I KNOW I had the whole weekend to do it... that's not the point!) and even drew up some flashcards. I was particularly stoked with my mnemonic for Monday (getsuyoubi) 'gets to you'. Will never forget that one.
Oh yeah, house settlement won't be happening tomorrow as planned due to some delay with the vendor's bank (like, how hard can it be to receive oodles of money?!?) so will take possession on the 27th instead. It'd better happen because after that I'll be abroad. Sort of screwed up my lease plans but will sort that out with real estate agent tomorrow. Sigh.
Well, I gotta go if I want to have a decent night's rest. Kind of scared about trip being so close and me not really having thought it through yet. Hmm.
