I forgot to mention that last week I got a call about a freelance job going as a poker writer. That's right, a poker writer. Unfortunately because of my full time job I can't commit to the two-features-a-week commission. However, the editor was open to contributions so we have stitched up a deal whereby I write him a 400-500 word piece every now and again and he pays me $200 a story. Sounds pretty fair to me. (Seriously, though, what have I done? As if I don't have enough to contend with!)

Speaking of which, last week I also won tickets to see 'Day Watch' (sequel to 'Night Watch'), a Russian movie based on a novel by Sergei Lukyanenko. Sir and I went to see it at the Chauvel in Paddington - a free beer alleviated my annoyance at the fact that it was in the east. It was ultra good so I'll need to add it to the list of movies that I'll review at some point in the distant future [the review is over here for your reading pleasure - Ed, 24/09]. The novel is one of a series, so we are waiting with bated breath for 'Twilight' and I hope to hell that it doesn't take as long to get to Australian cinemas as its predecessors (seriously, over a year? The DVD has already come out in Russia - to be found in bargain bins by then).
Anyway, I thought I'd pop in a 'Day Watch' poster featuring the lead actor Konstantin Khabensky. He looks like a cross between Mel Gibson and Julian McMahon, neither of whom I like in particular. And he's not as cute as, say, the vampire Kostya but he has je ne sais quoi, peut etre some of Tobey Maguire's nerdish charm as protagonist Anton Gorodetsky. Daggy knitwear and everything (though in this pic tis true he is wearing The Parrot's green satin shirt - you have to see this movie).
