Ends

I've been a bit scattered lately, what with settling into the new job, trying to fulfil a promise to my writing group to have new stuff from my novel this week (oh dear...) and trying to convince myself to do my tax return. I'm starting to get on top of things though, which is good.

First of all, I'm starting to get into the swing of things, journo-wise. Occasionally I get that tight rush of "will I or won't I make the deadline?", which is pretty much what I live for so it has all been great on that front. No getting annoyed that lesser writers get more recognition just because they sit at their desk the longest - it's all in the commission and delivery.

Secondly, I've read through the first draft of my part-novel, which isn't as bad as I feared it might be, so it looks as if I will spend the effort to finish it. Unfortunately this doesn't necessarily mean I've written anything new in the past week (as I'd planned). I've kind of sketched out characters a bit more and written TONNES of notes. But nothing new. But I will get onto it right away! (After this entry, that is).

Finally, I've had a work colleague recommend a tax accountant to me who specialises in people working in the publishing industry. YES! This is the year where I actually go to an accountant and get things sorted out properly instead of procrastinating until the very last minute. Right, must book him this week.

Have also made a pledge to myself that I will tidy and update my main website starting next week, whereby at least two hours of every available weeknight will be spent redoing code or uploading new files. Heh, I also have my travel journal from TWO YEARS AGO still half transcribed. So I will attend to that kind of thing and tie up all the ends.

Mind you, this might take longer than it seems as "available weeknights" are becoming scarcer and scarcer. This week I'm going to watch The Simpsons Movie and am going to writing group on Wednesday. Next week I have a freelancer's event and need to attend the NSW Project Management Achievement Awards for a custom client, so nights are filling fast.

Things to look forward to: The Cat Empire play 8 shows at the Metro in October - I will be snapping up tickets tomorrow morning!
