Words and other hiatuses

Aw, has it really been two weeks since my last post? (Yes). The sad part is that I haven't really been doing anything of importance unlike some of my other hiatuses (hiatii? no, Oxford says it's hiatuses) where I tend to do too much to have time to blog. Well, let this serve as an indication that sometimes I have nothing to blog about. No thoughts in my head, no opinion on anything at all.

NAH. Just laziness again.

I went for a picnic with Faun, which was a pleasant day out. I love talking to Faun, she is on my wavelength about so many things and yet I learn so much from her. We dropped in at the Well Connected in the afternoon, which was just as well because a short burst of torrential rain then descended upon the city only to stop just as we left the cafe. Unfortunately I was tipsy having shared a bottle of champagne with her so at some point I split open the big knuckle on my right hand without realising until my hand was covered in blood. Not a good look.

The following Friday I went to see CODA at The Vanguard, which was a great show. Their music sounds so dynamic live, there's a real energy that touches the right parts of my brain when I'm in that setting. Sir, Vanessa and I ate at Green Palace Thai beforehand and then my friend Gil (who I met while volunteering for various things last year) joined us later at The Vanguard. V and I were supposed to go to Mylk, a night club in Darlinghurst, for Dougal's birthday but V had the shits with him and I was tired and suffering from some mysterious joint pain and the CODA gig ended late (11:30pm) so we just went home.

Over the weekend I went home for Chinese New Year. It isn't really a big deal in my family but it was a nice chance to hit two birds with one stone - ie celebrate and collect ang pow (red packets full of $$$) and visit my family. And also walk my dog who seems to be going blind in one eye..? Ne'er mind she is otherwise healthy with all other faculties intact.

Anyway, here's something. My mother had told me that my brother had gotten engaged to Yuko (they've been going out for about a year) and was I free next Saturday (ie today) for the engagement dinner? So on Sunday my bro comes over for dinner and we exchange Gong Xi Fa Cai for Chinese New Year and then I say "and congratulations". He goes "for what?" and I'm like SHIT. Luckily, although Yuko speaks decent English, she is not always attuned to the subtleties of the language and she thought it had something to do with Chinese New Year.

IT TURNS OUT that he is not engaged yet. He has the ring, but he hasn't asked her yet. I don't think they've even talked about it casually. And yet we are supposed to be going to his engagement dinner. What if she says no? No one told me it wasn't confirmed; I just assumed that the dinner would be like an official thing of something that had already been decided. I almost put my foot in it! My mum told me he was engaged! Aargh! Well, I'll find out what's going on tonight.

To top off this string of events I went to see Snow Patrol on Monday night. Got chatting to a lady sitting next to me - she was chaperoning her twelve year old son and his friend so she was a cool mum. Red Riders and The Howling Bells supported. And yay, I have a review of the gig up.

Nothing doing, nothing doing. Will polish off this entry and then do some writing! Have cleaned out my second drawer (where random bits of paper live; mostly important finance things) and have straightened out my room cos my sis is coming to stay tonight so it's all on for words.
