I shouldn't...

... have started knitting. I've almost finished my scarf now. But there looks to be a shortage of wool. Ordinarily, for a simple one-stitch scarf it would be fine but NO nonono I decided it would be nice to knit a pattern of my own making which goes something like: 32 x plain stitch, 3 x purl-plain, 2 x (16 x plain stitch, 1 x purl-plain), 16 x plain stitch, 3 x purl-plain and then backwards to make a palindromically correct scarf. Don't worry if you don't understand that, it makes sense to me when I'm knitting it.

ANYWAY, I'm on the home stretch, on row 8 of the last 32 rows and there doesn't look to be enough wool to finish the pattern. But I'm one of those people who can't stand for something not to follow the pattern and I know it will irritate me to the end of my days if the pattern isn't centred. And, I should face it, the scarf probably isn't long enough considering its width. I knew I should have used 20 stitches across instead of 30.

So I'm going to get to the end of the wool. And then, instead of casting off, I'm going to start a row of 20 stitches and unravel my week's work as I create a better scarf. It's a lot of knitting to undo (and if I simply pulled out the stitches I know the wool will get tangled... again). And it's a damn shame. We all have to make sacrifices for fashion, eh?
