Being unemployed is boring. So is working in an accounting firm, I realised, when some of my high school friends managed to get together for dinner (Korean BBQ) on Friday night. Amanda, Tracy and Gloria turned up, as did A's fiance Geoff, T's b/f Scott and Scott's business partner Nathan. The former four work in accounting-type jobs and Scott and Nathan own and operate Rockstar Memoirs, which is a yearbook production service, for want of a better description. It was good to have a chat but it has become apparent to me that we're running out of things to say. No show from Erin or Alison for various reasons.
Earlier in the week I attended two info nights, one for Australian Volunteers International regarding a possible 2 year post overseas and the other for an Intrepid charity challenge supporting the Blue Horizon Foundation and aided by Memorable Challenges, which is a fundraising consultancy. Talked to the directors of BH and MC, a meeting set up through Susie a couple of weeks ago. Became really enthusiastic about the whole thing and rather restless - I mean, itching to pitch but who to? how? when? And I really want to succeed in getting this out there.
After the Intrepid slide night started I headed over to the Opera House for the Amici Forever concert, supported by Cello Diva. Cello Diva (cello and piano accompaniment) were a bit spare but Amici made up for it by presenting a strong show (review). Also saw Jarhead for free with Sir (we're both Cinebuzz members) on Thursday night after going to the new Parramatta Workers' Club for dinner. Kept teasing my dad about having a crush on Sophie B Hawkins (y'know that song "As I Lay Me Down to Sleep"); even though he had no idea who she was, he was very enthusiastic about seeing her there.
Weekend was spent reading the Saturday SMH and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Managed to squeeze in a chat to Skippy who is back from Bangkok and somewhat ready to head to Brisbane to start her new job. Hope to meet up with her before she pays a visit to her Canberra buddies.
Had a bit of a breakthrough with Stuart; managed to talk him a little way through his family problems and we both had a little cry together. As a result he's in the process of upheaval - wants to move out of home, change jobs and get educated. Time will tell whether this will actually happen. I just realised that I'm pretty much in the same situation but a little better off in terms of my opportunities, though I'm far pickier.
This week: job interview for Vodafone live! content editor position, drinks with some ex-POLsters, a birthday dinner, a gig, Clean Up Australia Day and Sireesha's 'yay I got a job' lunch. Hopefully some successful pitching, too.
